Yes, instances in a stopped state continue to reserve dedicated system resources (RAM, SSD storage, IP aliases, CPU) and therefore incur charges until you destroy the instance. If you wish to no longer accumulate charges for a virtual machine, please use the DESTROY button in the customer portal.
We have not charged your card. What you have observed is a temporary authorization in order to validate the card provided. The hold will automatically expire based on your bank's policy, generally within a few days.
All servers on your account are billed hourly up to the monthly rate cap. The hourly rate is determined by dividing the monthly rate by 672 hours (28 days). If your server is online for more than 672 hours in a calendar month, you will only be billed the monthly rate. Accumulated charges are invoiced to your account on the 1st of every month.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Bitcoin (BTC and BCH), Alipay, UnionPay, WeChat Pay, and PayPal. Depending on your geographic region, Paypal supports additional payment networks, including Giropay and bank transfers.
Vultr.com is required to collect tax in several countries around the world. This tax is generally referred to as VAT (Value Added Tax), consumption tax, or sales tax. Prices listed on our website do not include tax. Tax will be added to your invoice as a separate line item.

Your bandwidth usage is based on the highest of either your inbound traffic or your outbound traffic. For example, if your VPS uses 100 GB of incoming bandwidth and 200 GB outgoing bandwidth, your utilization for billing purposes would be 200 GB.
Bandwidth utilization in excess of instance allocation is charged at $0.01 per GB in North American and Western European locations. Due to higher regional costs, Singapore and Tokyo (Japan) overage is priced at $0.025 per GB and Sydney (Australia) overage is priced at $0.05 per GB.
If your plan has 1000GB allocated to it, the amount of transfer per hour for overage calculations is 1000 / 672 = 1.48GB/hour. Your pending charges will reflect the overage calculated by this formula. Note: In some cases it may be less expensive to leave your instance running than to destroy it and be assessed overage charges.
Invoices for cloud hosting services prior to January 1st 2017 00:00 UTC represent start and end times in the United States Eastern Standard Time zone. All invoices after this date will reflect start and end times in UTC.
Two factor authentication allows you to configure an additional means of authentication on your account. When logging into Vultr, you are prompted with an additional login step after entering your password. This adds extra security to your account. We support Google Authenticator and Yubikey devices. Authy was previously supported, but has since been removed.

Learn about Vultr's compliance.
Vultr is committed to transparent and secure handling of all personal data on our network. Our processes have gone through an extensive procedural and legal review to ensure we fully meet the requirements set forth in the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation.
Vultr acts as both a data controller and a data processor. Vultr acts as a data controller for customer information that we collect to process payments and provide customer support. When a customer uses our services to process personal data, Vultr acts as a data processor.
If GDPR applies to your organization and you need a DPA to satisfy GDPR requirements, Vultr makes one available at the following URL: http://www.vultr.com/legal/vultr_gdpr_dpa.pdf.
In order for it to be binding, please send the executed document back to gdpr@vultr.com.
We've created a step by step document that shows you how to delete all your hosted data in our Vultr Docs section. Please review this guide: http://www.vultr.com/docs/vultr-data-portability-guide

See our full list of operating systems.
Yes, with the Upload ISO feature, you can upload your own bootable operating system image, mount it onto your instances and run through the setup process.
Yes, you can access the console for your virtual machine using the control panel.
Yes, we allow custom reverse DNS entries for your virtual machine IPs. You can update reverse dns information directly from your customer portal.
Subscribers may create snapshots of any active instance at any time. We understand the importance of creating backups of all critical files/content/configurations and encourage all Vultr.com subscribers to maintain current backups as part of organizational business continuity planning and execution. We also offer daily automated backups - read more details about automatic backups.
Yes, IPv6 is available in all of our 16 locations!
No, your instances grant you full root access and are 100% self-managed.
Many of our plans come with one primary IPv4 address. Up to two additional addresses are available for an extra fee.
Please see our documentation for a list of blocked ports.
In some instances, outbound traffic to the SMTP port may be blocked for new accounts. If you encounter this restriction, contact our support team from the customer portal.
In order to achieve the highest possible virtualized performance, all of our host machines use the latest-gen Intel CPU architecture with 100% SSD storage.
We utilize KVM ( Kernel-based Virtual Machine ) on 100% of our infrastructure.
The 120 GB SSDs on our Vultr Dedicated Cloud (VDC) product line offer approximately 110 GB of usable space.
By default, instances will have a clean OS install without these additional packages but you will have full root/administrator to install any additional software you require. If you prefer that your instances come with some pre-packaged software already setup, we do offer a suite of one-click applications that add some popular packages, including cPanel/WHM, LEMP, OpenVPN, and more. See the full list of one click applications.
No, instances do not come with a cPanel license by default. cPanel licenses are available for an additional $15/month for VPS instances.
Dedicated Cloud instances offer resources allocated to you with no noisy neighbors. You can rent 25%, 50%, 75%, or an entire dedicated server with the advantages of the Vultr platform including hourly billing and fast provisioning.
Bare Metal instances offer direct access to dedicated servers with no noisy neighbors. Compared to compute instances which are deployed in a virtualized cloud environment, bare metal grants you unrestricted access to the underlying physical servers making these servers suitable for even the most resource intensive workloads.
Vultr Bare Metal supports a wide range of our Vultr cloud features, including all stock operating system images, one click apps, startup scripts, and SSH key preloading. Certain features - including snapshots, custom ISOs, additional IPs, and private networking - are currently not available. More features will be added in the near future, so stay tuned! See our full feature list
The $2.50 IPv6 only sandbox plan is intended for general platform testing and it is limited to 2 instances per account. The $3.50 plan is similar to the $2.50 plan but it also includes an IPv4 address by default. The limit on the $3.50 plan is 5 instances per account. Their primary purpose is for early development and testing of ideas before upgrading or snapshot re-deployment to a larger permanent instance. These plans are not available for API automation.
